How Does Cure SMA Help the SMA Community?
For individuals and families navigating SMA, support organizations can play an important role in education, advocacy, research, care access, and community connection. Cure SMA’s mission is to drive research for treatments and a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy while supporting and empowering everyone impacted by SMA today. The organization also emphasizes that no person should feel alone while facing this disease, which makes its work especially meaningful for newly diagnosed families, adults with SMA, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and advocates.
Cure SMA helps the SMA community through national support programs, educational resources, care packages, independence assistance, conferences, local events, and equipment support. Its community support programs are available to individuals with SMA and their families in the United States, with most resources offered at no cost. Cure SMA provides information packets, newly diagnosed care packages, teen and adult support packages, independence assistance packages, and an equipment pool that loans certain medical equipment free of charge when available. The organization also hosts the Annual SMA Conference, which brings together researchers, healthcare professionals, individuals with SMA, and families to learn, network, collaborate, and build a community.
