Exploring the Pros and Cons of Evrysdi’s Side Effects
Evrysdi, also known as risdiplam, is an FDA-approved therapy for pediatric and adult patients with SMA, and it is a daily oral medication available as a liquid or tablet that may be taken by mouth or, for the liquid form, through a feeding tube. Evrysdi is also known as an SMN2 splicing modifier, which means it is designed to help the body produce more functional survival motor neuron protein.
The potential “pros” of Evrysdi are connected to access, convenience, and treatment progress within the SMA community. Because Evrysdi is taken orally once daily, it may be an important option for people who have complex spine anatomy, difficulty with spinal injections, or care routines that make at-home treatment meaningful. However, the “cons” of Evrysdi’s side effects should also be clearly understood. The most common adverse reactions in later-onset SMA include fever, diarrhea, and rash; in infantile-onset SMA, common side effects can also include upper respiratory tract infection, lower respiratory tract infection, constipation, vomiting, and cough.
