Pull Yourself Together
These past few weeks haven’t been the easiest. My grandma is pushing 100 turning 97 today. Her health has taken quite the turn this year, especially within these past three months. Seeing the progressiveness of her health declining isn’t easy to witness nor bear emotionally.
These past few week’s emotionally speaking has been difficult to hold my emotions along with myself together. Seeing her in the hospital having IV’s, bruising from needle pokes, being in respiratory distress, and in pain hurts. She isn’t just my grandma she is more like a second mother to me. Because my mom was a single mother working, and my dad wasn’t in the picture, and also because she lived with my mom for a large majority of my life, she has been there for me since the very beginning. She is not so much my grandmother, but more of a mother figure.
I never personally understood how much strength it takes to see someone you love in the hospital until I was on the other side of the bed. Normally I am the one being visited at while being in the hospital, but now I have became the visitor.
Lately I have became more mindful of my thoughts, emotions, and behaviors with others because again this isn’t easy to see her in the state she is in. When I become teary eyed I have noticed I have been telling myself “pull yourself together” because I know that if I don’t - it will become even more difficult to stop the flood from pouring through my eyes. As it is those around me too are doing their best keeping and holding themselves together, while some understandably can’t.
In moments such as this it is important how you are coping with your emotions. Me and the divine have a unique connection and I am fortunate to be in a solace mental state keeping my faith. Prayer has been and is my personal lifeline.
During moments where you want to break it is important how you cope with your emotions whether it be running, going to the gym, being outdoors, surrounding yourself with loved ones, working… doing something that keeps yourself busy, so you don’t drown in your own thoughts. Don’t run away from how you feel, but finding what works for you helping you through.
For me I have been busy with personal and professional work of mine keeping my mind distracted and occupied. Personally, I have been working on bettering my health physically lifting my weights. Professionally, I have been working on a variety of different things both in front and behind the scenes.
What I have been doing is 1. Keeping God first, especially through prayer 2. Working out in a way that works personally for me 3. Keeping my mind distracted and occupied 4. Watch FaZe Rug/ watching YouTube videos that helps shed light for my mental health 5. Reading books that strengthens the mind keeping my mindset strong and healthy 6. Seeking humor finding something to keep my spirits elevated 7. Reflecting off of past experiences bringing personal inspiration 8. Being in a constant mental state of learning, so I have something to look forward to and potentially work or improve on now or later 9. Having conversations with personal relationships where their voice alone is comforting 10. Writing for you giving me an outlet to let some personal emotions out within these blog posts - writing is another great tool because it can bring you healing and comfort.
There are many things one must and can do to cope with their emotions to push through and remain positive. It is how we operate managing ourselves within that process is what determines where one’s mental state will go. Our attitude becomes our altitude. Be there for your loved ones as much as possible, work on remaining focused on your goal, become very attentive with how you are with your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, and most importantly stay grounded in faith.
Be attentive with your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors and keep yourself focused to endure what you must taking care of yourself, and becoming aware with how you can too take care of those around you. Offer an open ear, shoulder to cry on, something to laugh about, and you will find just how strong and infectious your strength can be.
Something I personally wanted to share with you too is while I was on my way home from seeing my grandmother I had spontaneously played this song that is in my music list, and its lyrics hit home: https://youtu.be/TY-jh4RS_I0?si=rJka3S_lYz1e0G4X
