Amberley was traveling to Denver, Colorado, in 2010 when she looked down at her map, overcorrected her truck, rolled, was ejected, and hit a fence post going 70 miles per hour. The accident broke her back, injured her spinal cord, and left her paralyzed from the waist down. In her words, “life started over.” But even after everything changed, Amberley leaned on the three things that continued to carry her forward: her family, her faith, and her horses. Just four months after the accident, she got back on a horse, and 18 months later, she returned to competing.
Her story would later inspire the Netflix film Walk. Ride. Rodeo., bringing her story of courage, struggle, and comeback to a much larger audience. But behind the movie is a real woman who lived every painful, powerful, and life-changing moment: the accident, the recovery, the tested faith, the love for horses, the support of her family, and the decision not to let the wheelchair decide who she would become.
