There was a time when Emma Victoria believed she had the kind of life people were supposed to want. She was fit, active, surrounded by friends, in a long-term relationship, and running a business in Australia that she had built for nearly a decade. She worked long days, managed staff and clients, went to the gym regularly, and rarely considered the possibility that serious illness could become part of her story. Then a lump she initially believed was connected to a gym injury changed the direction of her life.

Emma’s relationship with adversity had begun long before cancer. At 21, she lost her father while working as a backing dancer for pop groups. Her fathers passing pushed her to grow up quickly wanting to become someone he would be proud of. She used a small inheritance to begin a business despite having no formal qualifications for the path ahead. The business succeeded, and years later she brought that entrepreneurial spirit from England to Australia. Looking back, she believes the strength developed through her upbringing, her family and earlier losses helped prepare her for a battle she could never have anticipated.
When doctors told her they believed the lump was cancer, her first reaction was denial. She had considered herself fit and healthy struggling to accept what the scans were showing. Emma says she sought another opinion before accepting the diagnosis and then descended into what she described as a dark place. She recounts being told that without the treatment being offered, she had approximately three months to live. That fear sent her searching for other possibilities, eventually leading her to Oasis of Hope, where she says the experience gave her something she desperately needed at the time: hope.
